Son dönem kronik böbrek yetmezliğinin tedavisinde giderek daha yaygın bir seçenek olan periton diyalizinin en Önemli komplikasyonları enfeksiyonlardır. Peritonit tedavisinde meydana gelen gelişmeler ve eğitimle peritonit sıklığında azalma görülmesine rağmen, peritonit dışı enfeksiyöz komplikasyonları olan çıkış yeri ve tünel enfeksiyonlarının sıklığında azalma görülmemektedir. Bu enfeksiyonlar halen Önemli morbidite, peritonit oluşumu ve kate-ter kaybına neden olmaktadır. CAPD ve CCPD için çıkış yeri ve tünel enfeksiyonlarının insidansı 0.6 epizot/hasta yılıdır (1). Kateter değiştirilmesi İnsidansı ise bu hastalarda CAPD için 0.2/hasta yılı, CCPD hastaları için 0.3/hasta yılıdır. Aletli periton diyalizi (APD) için ise bu oranlar 0.41-0.62 epizot/hasta yılı olarak değişmektedir (2). Yaş ve diyaliz süresinin anması tünel ve çıktş yeri enfeksiyonu insidansını azaltmakladır (3).
