Abstract (2. Language):
In this study, it was showed that it is possible to produce the dissolving pulp
from fast growing species such as poplar by using organosolv pulping process with
or without catalysts. In order to find optimum cooking conditions, 4 control and 30
different cooking experiments were done. The effects of ethanol ratio, cooking
temperature and time as well as catalyst ratio were studied. After cooking, pulps
produced were bleached by using chlorite delignification technique, following
purification by cold-alkali extraction. The obtained results show that with the
catalyst ratio exceeding 0.01 %, the pulp yield reduced to unacceptable level.
Indicating that the high catalyst ratio is not suitable for pulp production under
studied conditions. The best pulping result was taken at 40% ethanol consistency,
180 o C pulping temperature and 150 min reaction time without addition of and
catalyst to pulping liquor. After bleaching and alkali purification, the properties of
pulp produced were as follows; 30.7% yield, 95.67 % α-cellulose content, 677 cm3
/g viscosity, 82.87 % brightness, 1.80 % pentosans, 0.33 % copper number, 0.14 % ash
ratio. It is concluded that the pulp meets the quality requirements for the dissolving
grade pulp.
