The problem of Websites’ accessibility is one of the main field that web
designer has been studied for many years. The aim of these studies is able to
design web pages which are accessible by everyone. Nowadays, people of
various age groups are using internet in all over the World. A part of these
users are disabled because of health problems and these users have to connect
to internet on the different platforms.
Younger or older elderly attracting users with reading difficulties, use
special software that visually impaired users, different operating systems and
different platforms connected to the Internet enables all users seamless access to
the website and the site for alternative solutions to problems that may arise can
be produced that will show the level of accessibility of the site. Unreadable
content, the page can not be displayed and will complicate the use of the site
content. Enter the captcha using, for example, but on a page that does not use
an alternative voice for the visually impaired, these users will not be able to
move forward from this page.
The purpose of this study is to examine websites by using the standards
of World Wide Web Consortium (www.w3.org) and determine accessibility rate
of these websites for people who are disabled.
The Websites of faculties, colleges and institues of Ege University are
selected as the case of this study. In the first part of study, the required
qualifications for accessibility of websites will be described. In the second part,
the websites that included to study will be tested by using the criteria of
websites’ accessibility. In the last part of study, the lack of accessibility of these
websites will be identified and some solutions will be presented in order to
make accessibility of these websites excellent.

İnternet sitelerinin erişilebilirlik problemi uzun yıllardır web tasarımcılarının üzerinde çalıştığı alanların başlarında gelmektedir. Buradaki amaç herkes tarafından erişilebilir tasarımlar yapabilmektir. Dünyanın her yerinde çeşitli yaş gruplarından insanlar interneti kullanmakta, bu kullanıcıların bir kısmının sağlık sorunları nedeniyle bedensel engelleri bulunmakta ve bu sebeple farklı platformlardan internete bağlanmak zorunda kalmaktadırlar.
Yaşça küçük ya da ileri yaştaki yaşlı kullanıcıların okuma güçlüğü çekmesi, görme engelli kullanıcıların kullandığı özel yazılımlar, farklı işletim sistemleri ve farklı platformlardan internete bağlanan tüm kullanıcıların web sitesine sorunsuz erişebilmesi ve sitenin yaşanabilecek sorunlar için alternatif çözümler üretilebilmesi o sitenin erişilebilirlik düzeyini gösterecektir. Okunamayan içerik, görüntülenemeyen sayfalar ve içerikler sitenin kullanımını zorlaştıracaktır. Örneğin ancak captcha kullanılarak girebilecek bir sayfada görme engelliler için sesli alternatif kullanılmazsa bu kullanıcılar bu sayfadan ileriye gidemeyecektir.
Bu çalışmadaki amaç, World Wide Web (www.w3.org) konsorsiyumunun belirlediği web standartlarını kullanarak internet siteleri üzerinde inceleme yapmak ve bu sitelerin engelli kullanıcılar tarafından ne kadar erişilebilir olduğunu ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmaya örneklem olarak Ege Üniversitesi bünyesindeki fakülte, meslek yüksek okulu, yüksekokul ve enstitülerin internet siteleri seçilmiştir.
Çalışmanın birinci bölümünde internet sitelerinin erişilebilirlik açısından hangi nitelikleri taşıması gerektiği anlatılacaktır. İkinci bölümde, Ege Üniversitesi’nin incelemeye dahil edilen internet siteleri erişilebilirlik ölçütleri kullanılarak test edilecektir. Son bölümde ise incelenen sitelerde tespit edilen hataların erişilebilirlik açısından hatasız hale getirilebilmesi için çözüm önerileri sunulacaktır.
