Abstract (2. Language): 
In seven different chapters, the Koran montions about the angels bowing down to Adam. It tells that God had asked them to bow down to Adam when he created a human being from dry mud, gave him a shape and blew him from his soul. All the angels had bowed down to Adam, not so the satan. He refused to do so claiming that he was superior to him. Commentators of the Koran have scrutinized the nature of boing down to Adam in detiail as a term. They have also examined the word in terms of language meanings, and enumerated several results they have reached. However, for us, some other meanings of "bowing down" such as exaltation, reverence, salutation etc. Should be pointed out and emphasized upon rather than its formal way.

Kur'an-ı Kerim yedi ayrı sûrede meleklerin Âdem'e secdesinden söz etmektedir. Allah bir insan yaratacağını meleklere haber vermiş, ona şekil verip ruhundan üfleyince, meleklerden, yarattığı bu insana secde etmelerini istemiştir. Meleklerin hepsi de ona secde etmiş, ancak İblis kendisinin daha üstün olduğunu öne sürerek ona secde etmemiştir. Meleklerin Hz. Âdem'e secdesi müfessirlerimiz tarafından lügat ve terim anlamlarından hareketle yorumlanmış ve çeşitli sonuçlara varılmıştır. Ancak bize göre söz konusu secdenin şekilsel yönünden ziyâde, onun içerdiği "yüceltme, saygı sunma, selamlama" gibi anlamları öne çıkarılmalıdır.
