A MODEL PROPOSITION CONSIDERING THE SOCIAL COST OF CARBON EMISSION FOR SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT: A CASE STUDY IN A MARBLE FIRM

Abstract (2. Language):
This study aims to develop a strategic decision making model for a marble manufacturing firm which has suppliers, manufacturing plants and distribution centers by taking into account the minimization of sum of social and operational costs resulting from the sustainable supply chain network carbon emission. Operational costs include purchasing, production and transportation costs and on the other hand social costs are associated with the carbon emissions resulting from the production and transportation operations. The mathematical model developed in the study was solved by using software and it offered the most appropriate transportations scenarios for decision makers. In this study, the social cost of carbon emission was found to be a critical function that firms need to calculate in order to ensure sustainability in a supply chain. However, although the study has been made in a marble manufacturing firm, it may provide insights for different sectors. The result of the study showed that the legislations force firms to bear to the social cost of carbon emissions resulting from operational activities and encourage them to invest more in this direction.
