Faith Development theory has been one of the most studied, assessed and discussed written on faith and its development since 1981. Over 200 works have been studied on this theory. James W. Fowler, himself, has studied on the faith phenomenon and written a lot of articles and books continuously until his death in October 2015. In this article it has been intended to introduce the topic detailed, which is studied just a few works in Turkey. Fowler has argued that there are seven stages in faith development when added a primal faith stage, which categorizes the faith development of infants. According to Fowler’s theory transition from one stage to another isn’t automatical process; it needs to complete succesfully person’s development assignments, which appears in the former levels. Additionally there is a progress continuously according to the theory and it isn’t possible to return back completed stages. In the conclusion an information about ‘The Faith Development Interview’ developed by Fowler to determine that which stage a person is in? has been given briefly.

İnanç gelişim teorisi kaleme alındığı 1981 yılından günümüze kadar inanç ve onun gelişimi konusunda en çok incelenen, değerlendirilen ve tartışılan teorilerden birisi olmuştur. Bu teori üzerinde 200’den fazla çalışma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bizzat James W. Fowler’in kendisi, 2015 yılı Ekim ayındaki vefatına kadar sürekli olarak inanç olgusu üzerinde çalışmalarda bulunmuş ve çok sayıda makale ve kitap kaleme almıştır. Bu makale de Türkiye’de üzerinde çok az çalışmanın yapıldığı bir konunun detaylı olarak incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Fowler, inanç konusunda bebeklerin inanç gelişimini kategorize eden bir ön aşama da dahil edildiğinde yedi basamaklı bir aşama modeli ileri sürmüştür. Fowler’in teorisine göre bir aşamadan diğerine geçiş otomatik olarak gerçekleşmemekte, bireyin bir önceki aşamada ortaya çıkan gelişim ödevlerini başarılı bir şekilde tamamlaması gerekmektedir. Ayrıca teoride sürekli bir ilerleme meydana gelmekte olup tamamlanan bir aşamaya geri dönmek söz konusu değildir. Çalışmanın son bölümünde ise kısa bir şekilde insanların hangi inanç basamağında oluklarının tespit edilmesi amacıyla Fowler tarafından geliştirilen ‘İnanç Gelişim Mülakatı’ hakkında bilgi verilmektedir.
