Abstract (2. Language):
In this research, M.E.Porters competitive advantage approach is dealt with. Porter
indicated that competing in industry is affected by five competitive forces. According to Porter,
industry is composed of these five competitive forces such as Potential Entrants, Substitutes,
Suppliers, Buyers, Rivalry among Existing Firms. These elements determine the busineses
strategies and their competitive advantage approach over their rivals.
The research data are collected by survey applied on Istanbul Chamber of Industry 500
Turkish Manufacturing Companies. The aim of this study is the determination of Porters five
forces model elements which affect the competitive advantage approach. Developed theoretical model and hypothesises based on five forces model were tested with confirmatory factor analysis
by using LISREL. According to the research findings, while the competitive advantage approach
of the manufacturing companies is influenced by Potential Entrants, Buyers, Substitutes, it is not
affected by Suppliers and Rivalry among Existing Firms.

Bu araştırmada M.E. Porter.ın rekabet üstünlüğü anlayışı ele alınmıştır. Porter, endüstrideki
rekabetin, endüstriyi ekillendiren be rekabet gücü unsurundan etkilendi ine i aret etmektedir.
Porter.a göre endüstri yapısı, sektöre yeni girecek firmalar, ikame ürünler üreten firmalar, tedarikçiler,
alıcılar ve mevcut rekabetin yo unluk düzeyinden olu maktadır. Söz konusu unsurlar,
i letmelerin birbirlerine göre belirleyecekleri stratejileri ve rekabet üstünlü ü anlayı larını etkilemektedir.
Ara tırma verileri, İstanbul Sanayi Odası.nın tespit etti i 500 büyük sanayi i letmesi üzerinde
gerçekle tirilen anket yoluyla temin edilmi tir. Ara tırmanın amacı, söz konusu i letmelerin
rekabet üstünlü ü anlayı ının Porter.ın be güç modeli unsurlarının hangilerinden etkilendi inin
belirlenmesinden olu maktadır. Be güç modeline göre geli tirilen kuramsal model ve modele
ili kin hipotezler, LISREL paket program kullanılarak do rulayıcı faktör analizi yoluyla test
edilmi tir. Ara tırma sonuçlarına göre, imalat sanayi i letmelerinin rekabet üstünlü ü anlayı ları-
nın; sektöre yeni girecek firmalar, alıcılar ve ikame ürünlerden kaynakladı ı belirlenmi , tedarikçiler
ve sektördeki rekabetin yo unlu u unsurlarından etkilenmedi i tespit edilmi tir.
