In the arLicle the etiology of mouth and dental injuries and their preventive measures were discussed to emphaize the role of mouth guards in preventing these injuries- The field of "sports dentistry" which deals with the preventing and treatment of mouth and dental injures which are mounted into the mouth during performing various snorts and panics Mouth guards as a shock absorbers "are placed between the javs in order to minimize the shuck resulted from the jamming of the jaws. Month guards prevent the probable serious injuries such as concussions, cerebral henorrhages, incidents ol unconsciousness, tooth fractures, jaw fractures, and neck injuries by helping to avoid situations where the lower jaw gets jammed into the upper jaw. Mouth guards are also effective in preventing the injuries of the soft tissue in the oral cavity such as lips, tongue and cheeks.

Bu makalede ağız vc diş yaralanmalarının ctiyolojisi ve alınabilecek bnlemîcr gözden geçirilerek ağı/. kom; yuculannın ağız ve diş yaralan m al an ti m Önlenmesinde ki yeri incelenmiştir. Ağız diş yaralanmalarının önlenmesi ve tedavisi ile ilgilenen "Spor Di% Hekimliği" dünyada gittikçe yaygınlaşan bir bilim dalıdır. Ağız koruyucuları oyun oynarken ve sportif aktiviteler sırasında ceneicrin birbirine çarpması ile oluşan "şok"u cn aza indirmek amacı iic "şok absorbe edici yastık" olarak çeneler arasına yerleştirilirler. Plastik maddelerden yapılmış esnek apareylcrdır. Ağı?, koruyucular atı çenenin üst çeneye çarpmasını önleyerek olası beyin sarsıntısı, beyin kanaması, şuur kaybı, diş kırılmaları, çene kırığı ve incinmeleri gibi ciddi yaralanmaların oluşmasını önler. Agı^ koruyucuları aynı zamanda ağı/, içerisindeki dudak, dil ve yanak gibi yumuşak dokuların korunmasında da etkilidir.
