Abstract (2. Language):
Human saliva contains an antimicrohiaf system comprised of salivary peroxidazc, ıhiocyanate and hydrogen peroxidase. The oxidation of thiocyanatc by hydrogen peroksidasc calaly/.ed by salivary peroxidase, yielding the antimicrobial agent hypothiocyanitc. Several studies have suggested that the pcrotsdation reaction serves at least two important functions in the human mouth. The products of the reaction inhibit bacterial growth and metabolism and reaction prevents the accumulation by hydrogen peroxide excreted by many strain of oral streptococci . Twenty four male and twenty six women examined and analyzed the stimulated flow rate, pHt buffer capacity, pcroAİdaze and thiocyanatc and number of mutans streptococci (S.mutans) and Lactobacilli- Statistically analyses showed correlations between peroxidase and stimulated flow rate (>005) but no correlation found between peroxidase, and DMF, buffer capacity, number of S.mııtans and İactobacilli (>0.05). On the other hand, statistically analyses showed no correlaion found between thiocyanatc and DMF, stimulated flow rate, buffer capacity and laetobacil Q0.Q5).
