ENDODONTIC- PERIODONTAL LESIONS

Journal Name:

Publication Year:

Abstract (2. Language):
Combined endodontic- periodontal lesions are localised, circumscribed areas of infection originating in the periodontal and\or pulpal tissues. Dental pulp communicates with periodontium through apical, lateral or accessory canals. In experimental annuals and human beings it has been .shown that pulpal padiosis can cause varying degrees ol" periodontal changes. However, a clear cause-and-effect relationship between pulpal disease and periodontal changes has been suggested, the effect of periodontal disease on the pulpal tissue still remain unclear and controversial. Diagnosis of endodontic-peridental lesions is often a challenge for clinicians. Correct diagnosis of those endodontic-periodontic lesions Is a critical step lor the success of treatment and requires the collection of a detailed medical and dental history, a prudent clinical examination including the utilization of various tests and if necessary, consultation with the apropriate specialist. In this study, the diagnostic tests and clasification of endodolie-periodontal lesions have been reviewed and presented briefly. Furthermore, the clinical and reiearch findings of relationship between pulpal conditions, periodontal disease and treatments have been examinatcd.
