Psychological burnout due to professional concern s and problems at working environment is an individual problem commonly seen today, preventing productivity. The aim of this research is to evaluate the job satisfaction degree of the academic staff and nurses working at Faculty of Dentistry in Atatürk University. Data were collected from 117 volunteers; 102 of them were academic dentists and 15 were nurses. The study was carried out by taking a poll between November 15-26, 2004. Burnout was measured by Maslach Burnout Inventory-Turkish version. Results for the academician dentists were as follows: 50.2% with high emotional burnout, 17.8% with high depersonalization and 59.9% with low personal accomplishment. For nurses, however, the results were like that: 33.4% with high emotional burnout and 80% with low personal accomplishment. As the academic career, professional period and age increase, burnout decreases for academician dentists. PhD students showed the highest burnout val¬ues. Nurses felt less personal accomplishment than their co-workers did; however, they seem to be less burnout than academician dentists are.

Çalışma ortamındaki sorunlar ve mesleki kaygılarla gelişen psikoloji olarak tükenmişlik, prodüktiviteyi engelleyen ve günümüzde çok sık rastlanılan bireysel bir sorundur. Bu araştırma, Atatürk Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesinde çalışan, akademik diş hekimleri ve görevli hemşirelerin tüken¬mişlik düzeylerini belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmaya 102 akademik personel diş heki¬mi ve 15 hemşire olmak üzere toplam 117 gönüllü katılmıştır. Araştırma 15-26 Kasım 2004 tarihleri arasın¬da, bir anket formu uygulanarak, gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tükenmişlik düzeyleri Maslach Tükenmişlik Ölçeği (MBI) Türkçe versiyonu kullanılarak ölçülmüştür. Araştırma sonuçları, akademik diş hekimle¬rinin %50.2'sinin yüksek düzeyde duygusal tükenme (EE), %17.8'nin yüksek düzeyde duyarsızlaşma (D) ve %59.9'da düşük kişisel başarı (PA) duygusu yaşa¬dığını, hemşirelerin %33.4'nün yüksek duygusal tükenme (EE) ve %80'ninin düşük kişisel başarı (PA) duygusu yaşadığını göstermiştir. Akademik kariyer, meslekte geçen yıllar ve diş hekimlerinin yaşları artıkça tükenmişlik düzeyleri azalmaktadır. Tükenmişlik düzeyi açısından en kötü durumda olan grup doktora öğrencileridir. Hemşireler ise çalışma arkadaşlarına oranla daha az kişisel başarı duygusu yaşamakta, buna karşın doçent ve yardımcı doçent diş hekimlerine oranla daha az tükenmiş görün¬mektedirler.
