Abstract (2. Language):
Dentistry recognizes microleakage as a multifac-eted biological phenomenon. Sensory component of microleakage is a consequence of hydrodynamic fluid movement within the dentinal tubuli complex. The lit¬erature contains conflicting data about in vitro microleakage evaluations and their usefulness and reli¬ability. Data which evaluates the biological deposition of reparative and dentin bridges as either repair or regeneration are presented as a basis for considering the clinical selections of dental materials. Recent data demonstrate that dentin and pulp healing are ensured when a proper biological seal is provided to control and prevent microleakage. In this study, a critical review of techniques used in the assessment of microleakage in dental restorations is presented. These techniques include the use of autoradiographic tech¬nique, electrochemistry, bacterial microleakage, human serum, fluid filtration, gas chromotography, dye penetration, chemical tracers, scanning electron microscope analysis. Factors effecting the microleak-age are thermal cycle and load cycle.
