Aim: The aim of the present study was; firstly, to determine whether oral malodour and periodontal disease parameters are associated with one another in 60 subjects (male: female= 25:35, mean age ± SD = 33.61±3.04 years); and secondly, to investigate the impact of oral hygiene instruction and periodontal therapy on oral malodour. Method: The parameters measured included organoleptic and haiimeter measurements, gingival index, plaque index, ciinical attachment levels and periodontal probnng depth before and after the treatment procedures. Results: Ciinical index values were significantly associated with haiimeter scores (p<0,001). The statistical analysis revealed that periodontal treatments caused a significant reduction in volatile sulphur compound formation (p < 0.001). Conclusions: These results suggest that, in the population studied, periodontal heatth and oral malodour are associated with one another. Oral malodour levels were significantly reduced after treating periodontal diseases.

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı, öncelkkle ağız kokusu ile periodontal hastalık arasında brr ilŞşknnnn olup olmadığını 60 hastada (bayan:erkek = 25:35, Yaş orta/aması±SD = 33,61±3,04) belirlemek ve periodontal tedavilerin ağızkokusu üzerine etkisini araştırmaktı. Metot: Gingival indeks, plak indeksi, klinik ataçman seviyesi, periodontal cep derinliği organoleptik ve haiimeter ölçümleri, periodontal tedavilerden önce ve sonra yaplarak değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Kinnkk indeks değerleri ile haiimeter değerleri arasında istatistiksel olarak önemli derecede pozitif brr ilişki olduğu bulundu (p<0,001) ve periodontal tedavilerin volatll sülfür bileşiklerinin oluşumunda önemli derecede azalmaya sebep olduğu gösterl/di (p<0,001). Sonuçlar: Sonuç oaarak, periodontal sağlık ile ağız kokusu arasında önemli brr ilişki vardır ve periodontal hastalıkların tedavisinden sonra ağız kokusu seviyelerinde önemli derecede azalma olmaktadır.
