Abstract (2. Language):
Purpose: The gingival zenith (the most apikal point of the gingival outline) is one of the fundamental criteria that form natural oral esthetics. In the maxillary anterior region the gingival zenith usually lies more distal to the median line of the tooth. This rule usually apply to maxillary central incisors however does not always apply to maxillary lateral incisors or mandibular incisisors. Tooth preparations for full-crown or laminate veneer restorations must respect this basic shape of trhe gingiva. The aim of this study was to determine angle between zenith of the gingival contours of maxillary central incisors and lines that pass through the midpoints of incisal edges and to determine the positions of the gingival zenith. Materials and methods: In the present study, 101 dental casts were used that obtained from subjects aged between 16-22 years. The midpoints of the incisal edges of teeth and the zenith of the gingival contours were marked. Than, photographs of labial surfaces were taken with a atandart mechanism. The angle values between the lines were determined with the use of Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Results: The statistical tests revealed the average angles were 6.50±3.69°, for maxillary right central incisors 6.03±3.46°, for maxillary left central incisors 5.66±2.68°, for maxillary right lateral incisors and 5.06±2.93° for maxillary left lateral incisors distally. Conclusion: The zenith of the gingival contour takes place on the gingiva slightly distally according to median line of the central and lateral incisors.
