Abstract (2. Language):
Aim: In this study, it is aimed to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of supernumerary teeth and evaluate the associated pathologies and treatment protocol. Material and Method: In this retrospective study, a total of 8955 panoramic radiographs of patients who presented at our clinic between the years of 2000 to 2010 and records of patients were used. The number, location, position, type, and morphology of supernumerary teeth were determined. Their associated pathologies or complications, and whether any treatment has been carried out was evaluated. Results: A total 117 supernumerary teeth was determined on 78 patients who were ranging in age from 5 to 67, and with a mean age of 22.04±8.86 years. It was found that the most commonly, supernumerary teeth were on male and patients with a 1.29:1 male:female ratio. The most commonly supernumerary teeth were distomolar on 29 cases (35.80%) and mesiodens on 24 cases (29.63%), premolar on 20 cases (24.69%), paramolar on 4 cases (4.94%), lateral on 3 cases (3.70%), and canine on 1 case (1.24%) was found. It was determined that 50 of 78 supernumerary cases was no pathology (64.1%) and 60.68% of supernumerary teeth followed up. Conclusion: The pravelence of supernumerary teeth was found 0.87%. In this present study as different other studies in literature, it was determined that the best common supernumerary teeth were distomolars and the best common morphology of supernumerary teeth was premolar form.
