Radiographs shows two-dimensional ap-perarance of three -dimensional objects. There-Tore, rauiuyrtpiimayc wiamtv • >«... — n;j:s does not always seem to correspond to the true canal situation. For this reason in this study, mesial-distal diameter on periapical radiographs was compared witht true mesial-distal diameter obtained from root sections. In this study, 46 extracted single-rooted human teeth were used and their periapical radiographs were taken by parallelling techniques. The root length was measured and their mid-cervical, middle, mid-apical points were marked on the radiographs. Diameters in mesial-to-distal direction were measured. Same points were marked on the extracted teeth and cross-sections made with microfcom. Actual mesial-distal diameter of the canal was measured from root sections under a steromicroscope. These measjrements were analysed by statisi-cai tests, t-tests. Consequently, there was statistically no difference between the radiographic and actual measurements obtained from cervical area. However, significant differences were found between radiographic measuremets and actual measurements obtained from apicai and middle of canals.

Radyografiler 3 boyutlu objenin 2 boıuylu görüntüsünü verdiklerinden kak kanal boşluğunun bovuian ve sayısı hakkında kesin bilgi vermezler. Bu nedenle araştırmamızda; kök kanalının periapical nı-dvograflar üzerinde yapılan mesto-distal çap ölçümleri ile çekilmiş dişlerin'mikroskobik kesitlerinde yapılan gerçek mesio-distal çap ölçümlerini karşılaştırdık. Çalışmamızda k-.ıLar.da» 4 fi adet :ek ke'iklıi dişin radvoçrafları paralel teknik de alındı. Bu radyom aflar üzerinde kök boyu ölçülerek koronat. ona \e apikal bölgelerinin orta noktaları teshir edildi \-e mesıo-disial vb/ide çap ölçümleri yapıldı. Çekilen dişler üzerinde de 'asm \erler işaretlenerek sen doku mikrou anımda kesitleri ahnldı ve gerçek çap ölçümleri yapıldı Elde edilen devreler eş yapma t-tsesı ile dcŞcrlenldtnldi. Sonuç olarak, korona! bolçede. aerçek ölçümler ile raldyoçrafik ölçümler arasında önemli farklılık bulunmazken, orta ve apikal bölgeden alınan öl^üınlet arasıdaki f ırk anlamlı bulundu.
