The present investigation was carried out on the primary school students of Erzurum and Düzce in order to obtain knowledges of their health, socio-economic and geographic conditions of the investigated population subject were different and their ages were between 6 and 12 years. While periodontal status was assessed using the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN), dental status was evaluated using the DMF-t. The findings showed that 21.5 % of these children had healthy gingivae (Score 0). In addition, 55-8 % were found to have a score of I, denoting bleeding of the gingiva while 2.6 % had calculus formation on their tooth surface {Score 2). Bleeding from a false pocket was a relatively rare finding. As for periodontal treatment needs in this sample, 78.5 % of children appeared to require oral hygiene education (OHE), while 22.6 % required scaling. DMF average was 1,86 among the primary school student in Erzurum and 1.91 among those in Düzce. It was also clearly understood from the questions asked to the children that almost none of them brush their teeth rcqularly and properly. The results of this baseline study indicate that effective dental care is needed for the improvement of oral health status of the young population.

Araştırma, Erzurum ve Düzce ilkokul öğrencilerinde ağız-diş saglığ] ile ilgili bilgilerin elde edilmesi amacıyla, eğitim seviyeleri aynı, sosyoekonomik seviyeleri ve iklim şartlan farklı bölgelerde yaşayan, 6-12 yaşları arasında toplam 2122 öğrenci üzerinde yürütüldü. Pcriodonlal durum, CPITN indeksi kullanılarak tesbit edildi. Muayene edilen grubun sağlıklı dişeti oranı %.2|,5 olarak bulundu. Buna ilaveten, 1 skoru % 55,8, 2 skoru % 2.6 olarak tesbit edildi. Yalanc] ceple birlikte kanamanın görülme hali nadirdi. Periodontal tedavi gereksinime göre ora! hijyen eğitimi (OHH) oram % 78.5 iken, skaüng gereksinimi % 22.6 olarak tesbit edildi. DMF oranı Erzurum ilkokullarında 1.86, Düzce ilkokullarında 1.91 idi. Araştırma s:rasında çocuklara yöneltilen sorulardan hemen hemen hiçbirisinin düzenli ve bilinçli diş fırçalamadıkları anlaşıldj. Sonuç oiarak, eLkili dental bakımın, genç popülasyonda iyi bir oral sağbk durumunun geliştirilmesi için, gerekli olduğu kanısına varıldı.
