Abstract (2. Language):
gingival retraction, because of gingival diseases or aging, encounter carioeenic effects. Since root surfaces are less resistant to and attacts, root caries arc frequently observed especially in geriatric and it emerges as a serious problem. Recently, various combination of chlorhexidinc have been used verv often in order to prevent root caries. hi this study Cervitec (a kind of chlorhcxidine varnish) was applied on 44 patients whose ages range from 55 to 75 with initativc root caries after having trimmed and reshaped their root surfaces. After necessary warnings, patients were called back and examined three months later and the treated root surfaces were retested, As a result, caries reccurrence was not observed in 91.5% of the 47 root surfaces involved in this study however softening has been defected in 8.5 % of them.
