Abstract (2. Language):
The aim of this study is to determine the differences between extreme and traditional athletes regarding “sensation seeking” through the administration of “Sensation Seeking Scale Form V” developed by Zuchermann (1994). The population of the study consists of the following groups: the students attending Anadolu University School of Physical Education and Sports during 2010-2011 Fall Term; the athletes who participated Clubs’ Winter Swimming Championship held between December 22nd – 26th 2010; the athletes who participated in Adults’ Fencing Open Tournament Turkey Championship held on 5-6 February 2011; the athletes how participated in Juniors- Adults Athletics Championship held on 19-20 February 2011; the participants of Snowboard Organization held in Uludağ between February 7th and 15th 2011; and finally the athletes who participated aggressive skating and skateboard competitions that took place in 720 Adrenaline Skate Park in Beşiktaş / Istanbul and Alçak Skate Park in Kadıköy / Istanbul on December 19th 2010. A total of 380 athletes (41% male and 59 % female) were chosen from this population by using random sampling method. In order to determine the differences between traditional and extreme athletes regarding sensation seeking, T-test and ANOVA analysis were applied to the data obtained. The results of this analysis revealed significant differences between traditional and extreme athletes in terms of “gender” and “sport branches”.
