It is very important to take into account of the religious development theories in the preparation of children's books with religious content which are one of the important auxiliary materials in religious education. Because the studies in the areas of religious development shed light on the subject whether children can understand or not any content in a stage of life. Our study aims to evaluate the children's books published in Turkey as regards two major religious development theories. The sample of our study is the children’s books with religious content prepared for the stage of pre-school and primary school and the best-selling books between the years of 2010-2014. The books are examined in the context of religious development theories of Ronald Goldman and Ernest Harms. Our study is a field work with the survey model. The data was collected with the document review and it is interpreted with the method of content analysis. Consequently, our study conclude that the way of handling the issue and some concepts are not suitable for the children of pre-school and primary school and there are some concepts can’t understood by the children.

Din eğitiminde önemli yardımcı materyallerden biri olan dini içerikli çocuk kitaplarının hazırlanmasında dini gelişim kuramlarının dikkate alınması büyük önem taşımaktadır. Çünkü dini gelişim alanındaki çalışmalar, çocukların hangi gelişim döneminde neleri anlayabileceği konusuna ışık tutar. Çalışmamız, Türkiye’de yayınlanan çocuk kitaplarını iki önemli dini gelişim kuramına göre değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Örneklem olarak, 2010-2014 yılları arasında en çok satılan, okul öncesi ve ilkokul çağı için hazırlanan dini içerikli çocuk kitapları seçilmiştir. Söz konusu kitaplar, Ronald Goldman ve Ernest Harms’ın Dini Gelişim Kuramları bağlamında incelenmiştir. Çalışmamız tarama modelinde betimsel bir alan araştırmasıdır. Doküman incelemesi ile veriler toplanmış ve içerik analizi yöntemi ile yorumlanmıştır. İncelenen kitapların bir kısmında kullanılan kavramların ve konuyu ele alış tarzının söz konusu gelişim dönemindeki çocukların dini gelişim özelliklerine uygunluk göstermediği, çocuklar tarafından anlaşılamayacak birçok kavramın bulunduğu görülmüştür.
