Abstract (2. Language): 
Translation, which has been developing in parallel with th history of mankind for ages, has already become a field of social science despite some objections. Departing from the French sources, this study reviews the ideas of a number of scholars, translators, philosophers and writers on translation as well as their works within the context of translational science and the criticisms concerning these works. In addition to this, the present study tries to investigate the previous stages taken by the translational science from its emergence to its current state. Since it is known that there exist a considerable number of German-speking and English-speaking scholars who have established a vairety of practices and theories concerning translation, both synchronic and diachronic ones, within the framework of German and English literatures, the current work modestly seeks to contribute to the former studies by adopting a comparative and diachronic approach to our subject matter, namely translation.

İnsanlık tarihine koşut gelişen çeviri, kimi karşı çıkmalara karşın, günümüzde artık çeviribilim adlı bir bilim dalıdır. Kimi germafon ve anglofon akademisyenlerin Alman veya İngiliz kaynaklarından hareketle çeviri etkinliklerini ve kuramsal gelişmeleri art zamanlı veya eş zamanlı çalışmalarla ortaya koydukları görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Fransızca kaynaklardan hareketle, kimi çevirmen, düşünür, araştırmacı ve kuramcının çeviri üzerine görüşleri, çeviribilimsel çalışmaları ve bu çalışmaların eleştirilerine yer verilecek; çevirinin ilk ortaya çıkışından günümüze dek geçirdiği aşamalar ve bugünkü durumu ortaya konulacaktır. 0 nedenle, çeviribilime tarihsel ve karşılaştırmalı yaklaşılan çalışmanın, bir ölçüde de olsa, daha önceki çalışmaları tamamlamaya katkıda bulunması amaçlanmaktadır.
