Abstract (2. Language):
In this study, the effects of severe qualitative and quantitative protein malnutrion on body weight and weights of certain organs were studied on 60 two months old male Wistar rats (Rattus rattus norvegicus). For this purpose 4 experiments were carried out In these experiments 15 animals, devided in equale three groups were fed with a rat chow diet (control group), a semisynthetic diet containing gelatine as protein source (gelatin-fed group) and no protein (N-free group) for 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks. At the end of experimental periods animals were euthanized and body and organ weights were recorded. During the experiment the mean body weights of animals in control groups showed an increase while the of malnourished groups exhibited a time-dependent decrease varying between 25% and 58% when compared to the relevant controls (p<0.01). Furthermore, there were also significant differences between two malnourished groups (p<0.01). Also, the organs interested were affected by malnutrition negatively, in general. Spleen, liver, pancreas, testes, kidneys and heart were the most effected organs. However, the effects of malnutrition on the weight of the brain and eyes were relatively sparse.
