Abstract (2. Language):
This article reviews and evaluates the trait theories of leadership. Major topics and controversies include studies on great man and traits of effective leader. The great man studies were among the first documented leadership research. The studies of trait theories were prevalent from the early 1900‟s. Though not substantial enough in their own rite to account for successful leadership, the trait theory provided a component to the identification of successful leaders. Recent research on the traits theories has focused on the integration of leader traits with the situations and other variables thought to influence the leadership process
