Abstract (2. Language):
Concerning foreign direct investment (FDI) data, international organizations (in particular IMF and OECD) together with national statistics agents have been making efforts on building up common standards and monitoring the implementation of these common rules. In this context, comparability of FDI data internationally has significantly improved in the recent past. Nonetheless, a number of problems which have to be addressed in order to improve the international harmonization of FDI statistics remain concerning definition of FDI and of single FDI components, reverse investment, differences in stock data, data sources and measurement problems. As long as standardized data collection and dissemination methods are not used in all national economies, quality and reliability of various national sources of FDI data will continue to be a problem to be solved. The same holds for cross-country analyses based on these data sources.
