Abstract (2. Language):
The aim of this study is to analyze the “Change and Recognition of Substance” unit in the Science and
Technology textbook in accordance with the standards of critical thinking. The universe of this study are the 5th
grade Science and Technology textbooks taught in secondary schools in the 2012-2013 academic year in
Turkey. The sample of the study is the “Change and Recognition of Substance” unit in the Science and
Technology textbook which has been accepted as a coursebook for a period of five years from the 2010-2011
academic year by the Board of Education’s decision no. 307 and dated in 20.12.2009 and was taught in the 5th
grades of secondary schools classes in the academic year 2012-2013. Descriptive method was used in the study
and data was collected through document analysis method. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the
“Change and Recognition of Substance” unit in the secondary 5th grade textbook did not meet the standard of
clarity, partially met the standards of accuracy, sufficiency and precision, and met the standards of importance
/ relevance and depth / breadth. As a result, it was suggested that critical thinking standards be taken into
consideration for the preparation of Science and Technology textbooks.

Bu araştırmanın amacı, ortaokulların 5. sınıflarında 2012–2013 öğretim yılında okutulan Fen ve Teknoloji ders
kitabındaki “Maddenin Değişimi ve Tanınması” ünitesini eleştirel düşünme standartları çerçevesinde analiz
etmektir. Bu çalışmanın evrenini Türkiye’de 2012-2013 eğitim öğretim yılında ortaokulların 5.sınıflarında
okutulan Fen ve Teknoloji ders kitapları oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın örneklemini Talim ve Terbiye Kurulunun
20.12.2009 tarihi 307 sayılı kararıyla 2010-2011 eğitim öğretim yılından itibaren beş yıl süreyle ders kitabı
olarak kabul edilen ve ortaokulların 5. sınıflarında 2012–2013 eğitim öğretim yılında okutulan Fen ve Teknoloji
ders kitabındaki “Maddenin Değişimi ve Tanınması” ünitesi oluşturmaktadır. Betimsel yöntemin kullanıldığı
araştırmada veriler doküman incelemesi yöntemi kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Yapılan analizde, ortaokul 5. sınıf
ders kitabında yer alan “Maddenin Değişimi ve Tanınması” ünitesinin eleştirel düşünme standartlarından açıklık
standardını karşılamadığı, doğruluk, yeterlilik ve kesinlik standartlarını kısmen karşıladığı, önem/alaka ve
derinlik/genişlik standartlarını karşıladığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Sonuç olarak fen ve teknoloji ders kitapları
hazırlanırken eleştirel düşünme standartlarının göz önüne alınmasına ilişkin önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
