THE MONETARY TRANSMISSION MECHANISM: ITS FUNCTIONING AND EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE

There are a number of different but related channels through which monetary policy affects the real economy. They are traditional interest rate channel, asset prices channel, exchange rate channel, credit channel and expectation channel. The combination of these various channels through which monetary policy affect the economy called as monetary transmission mechanism. It is important for the successfull conduct of monetary policy to have a better knowledge about monetary transmission mechanism. The aim of this study is to investigate the transmission mechanism of monetary policy. In this context we try to distinguish the channels of monetary transmission mechanism and make clearer the key elements of these channels.

Para politikası reel ekonomiyi birbiriyle baglantılı çesitli kanallar üzerinden etkilemektedir. Bu kanallar; geleneksel faiz kanalı, varlık fiyatları kanalı, döviz kuru kanalı, kredi kanalı ve beklenti kanalı olarak sıralanabilir. Para politikasının üzerinden ekonomiyi etkiledigi bu kanalların bilesimi parasal aktarım mekanizması olarak nitelendirilmektedir. Parasal aktarım mekanizması hakkında elde edilecek detaylı bilgiler para politikasının basarısı açısından büyük önem tasımaktadır. Bu çalısmanın amacı parasal aktarım mekanizmasının incelenmesidir. Bu çerçevede aktarım mekanizmasının kanalları arasında kabaca bir ayrım yapılmakta ve her bir kanalın isleyis sekli ve temel unsurları ortaya konulmaya çalısılmaktadır.
