Abstract (2. Language):
Majority of philosophical terms that we use today are Greek and Latin rooted. In order for Philosophy to appeal to the overall masses, these terms need to be translated into Turkish language. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the competence of Divânu Lugati’t-Turk which is regarded as the oldest and the most essential dictionary of Turkish Language, written by Kashgarlı Mahmud, in supplying equivalent terms for philosophical concepts. Therefore; both using Turkish equivalents of these terms and demonstrating the competence of dictionary in this regard carry a crucial role.

Bugün kullandığımız felsefî terimlerin büyük bir kısmı Grek-Latince’dir. Felsefe faaliyetinin milletimizin geneline hitap edebilmesi için bu terimlerin Türkçeleştirilmesi gerekmektedir. Bizim bu çalışmamız, Türk Dili’nin bilinen en eski ve köklü sözlüğü olarak kabul edilen Kaşgarlı Mahmud’un Divânu Lügati’t-Türk adlı eserindeki sözcüklerin, felsefî kavramları karşılamadaki yeterliliğini göstermeyi amaçlamaktadır. Böylece hem kavramların Türkçe terimlerle ifade edilmesi, hem de adı geçen eserin bu husustaki yeterliliğinin ortaya konulması dilimiz açısından önem arzetmektedir.
