Determining the Hopelessness Level of Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatoire Music Undergraduates

This is a descriptive study that examines the hopelessness levels of undergraduates of the Music
department, Ankara State Conservatoire, Hacettepe University. The environment of the study is
the conservatoires present in Turkey and the target population of the study consists of Hacettepe
University undergraduates of the Music department. From this target population, 71 students
were randomly chosen as samples in order to determine the students’ hopelessness levels by
carrying out a 20-question Beck hopelessness scale. According to the statistics of the lower
dimensions of feelings and expectations about the future, loss of motivation, and hope, students
range at the highest level in the hope lower dimension and at the lowest level in feelings and
expectations about the future lower dimension. When the high schools the undergraduates graduated from were compared, a meaningful difference was observed between graduates of
conservatoire high schools and regular high schools in relation to their feelings and expectations
about the future. In this sense, the average level of conservatoire high school graduates is
meaningfully lower than graduates of fine arts high school, regular high school, and vocational
high school.

Bu araştırma, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Ankara Devlet Konservatuarı Müzik bölümü lisans
öğrencilerinin umutsuzluk düzeylerini inceleyen betimsel bir çalışmadır. Çalışmanın evrenini
Türkiye’deki mevcut konservatuarlar, örneklemi ise Hacettepe Üniversitesi Ankara Devlet
konservatuarıdır. Müzik bölümü Lisans öğrencilerinden rastgele seçilmiş 71 öğrencinin
umutsuzluk düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla öğrencilere 20 sorudan oluşan Beck umutsuzluk
ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Umutsuzluğun gelecekle ilgili duygular ve beklentiler, motivasyon kaybı ve
umut alt boyutlarına göre yapılan istatistiklerde öğrencilerin en yüksek düzeyde umut alt
boyutunda, en düşük düzeyde de gelecek ile ilgili duygular ve beklentiler alt boyutunda dağılım
gösterdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğrencilerin mezun oldukları lise durumuna göre yapılan
karşılaştırmada gelecekle ilgili duygu ve beklentilerin konservatuar lisesi mezunları ile diğer
liselerden mezun öğrencilere ait ortalamalarda anlamlı derecede farklılık görülmüştür. Bu
boyutta konservatuar lisesi mezunu öğrencilerin ortalama düzeyleri, Güzel Sanatlar Lisesi, Genel
Lise ve Meslek Liselerinden mezun olan öğrencilere göre anlamlı derecede düşüktür.
