The purpose of this study is to explain the importance of natural gas, which has a special place among primary energy sources, for the world, for the EU and for Turkey. In this context, also, an evaluation has been made on the Nabucco Project which, some may think, renders Turkey an energy bridge. The statistical data used throughout the study relate to the traded primary sources only (coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear energy and hydro-electricity). According to the data collected, during the course of the study, the Nabucco Project is found to be a real challenge due to difficulties faced in providing the quantities to meet the demands.

Bu çalısmanın amacı, dünyadaki birincil enerji kaynakları içinde özel bir yere sahip olan dogal gazın dünya, Avrupa Birligi (AB) ve Türkiye için öneminin açıklanması ve bu baglamda Türkiye’yi enerji köprüsü haline getirmesi düsünülen Nabucco Projesi hakkında bir degerlendirme yapılmasıdır. Çalısmanın genelinde kullanılan birincil kaynaklı enerji istatistikleri, sadece ticari meta olarak ifade edilen birincil kaynaklara (kömür, petrol, dogal gaz, nükleer enerji ve hidroelektrik) göre hazırlanmıstır. Çalısma sonucunda elde edilen verilere göre, mevcut durum itibarıyla proje için gereken dogal gaz arz miktarının saglanmasındaki güçlükler nedeniyle, Nabucco Projesi’nin gerçeklestirilmesinin zor oldugu degerlendirilmektedir.
