Abstract (2. Language):
After the Second World War, the positive and negative changes in the social and political structures of the continent of Europe has naturally effected the world of art and literature strikingly. Reciprocal formations and interactions brought in problems such as lack of trust on human intelligence, atheism, the collapse of social and moral values, the meaninglessness of the universe, world, life and the fragile structure of human condition has been reflected on the world of theatre and as an inevitable result of these, the concept of the "modern theatre" has originated parallel to the existentialism movement.
As of 1950's, theatre script writer Eugene Ionesco has dealt with metaphysical issues under the framework of an imaginary atmosphere. In this study, we have evaluated the efforts and methods of the individual who is trying to escape the mortality problem and taking shelter in an imaginary universe.

İkinci dünya savaşı sonrası Kıta Avrupasında, siyasal ve toplumsal yapıda oluşan radikal değişimler, edebiyat ve sanatı da derin biçimde etkilemiştir .Savaş sonrası dönem insanını her alanda alt üst eden bu olumsuz atmosfer, edebiyat dünyasında özellikle metafizik planda bir dizi sorunu da gündeme getirmiştir; akla güvensizlik, tanrıtanımazlık, geleneksel değerlerin toplumsal ve ahlaki açıdan çöküşü, evrenin, dünyanın, yaşamın anlamsızlığı ve insanlık durumunun kırılgan yapısı vb. sorunlar, tiyatro dünyasına da yansımış, bunun, sonucu olarak, "yeni tiyatro" anlayışı, varoluşçuluk akımına koşut olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu bağlamda, 1950'li yıllardan başlayarak, Eugene Ionesco yapıtlarında, varoluşsal bir çerçevede değerlendirdiği derin iç sıkıntısını, yer yer kara mizaha başvurarak düşsel bir atmosfer içinde ele almıştır. Bu incelemede, Eugene Ionesco'nun yapıtlarında, ölüm sorunsalından kaçmaya çalışan bireyin, düşsel bir evrene sığınma çabalan ve yöntemleri incelenmiştir.
