Marcel Proust, a great writer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, is known for his use of complex sentences. In this paper, we have examined two translations of Proust's Un amour de Swann by Y.K. Karaosmanoğlu and Tahsin Yücel to analyse the translation difficulties that Proust work presents and the two different translation methods used by the respective translators.

Ondokuzuncu yüzyılın sonları ve yirminci yüzyıl başlarında romana getirdiği yenilikle bu alanda yeni bir çığır açan Marcel Proust çok karmaşık yapıdaki cümleleri ile dikkat çeker. Bu çalışmada Y.K. Karaosmanoğlu'nun 1942'de ve daha sonra da Tahsin Yücel'in dilimize çevirdikleri Swann'in bir aşkı'ndan hareketle Proust cümlelerinin çeviri aşamasında yarattığı güçlükler iki farklı çeviri anlayışı -sadık ve serbest- çerçevesinde incelenmiştir.
