In his only novel Le Solitaire, written in 1973, Eugene Ionesco questions being,existence and human condition as in his plays. The character of the novel, in an existential pain that results from social and moral cliches, mechanical rhythm of life and continual monotonv in human relations ending up in lack of communication and loneliness, undertakes a mystical,in some ways a metaphysical search to give a new meaning and way to his life. He gives voice to the path of emancipation by using the symbol of light that he identifies with a mystical contemplation.

Eugene Ionesco, 1973'te yazdığı Le Solitaire adlı tek romanında, tiyatro yapıtlarında da
görüldüğü gibi,varlığı, varoluşu, insanlık durumunu sorgulamıştır. Roman kişisi, toplumsal ve ahlaki klişelerden, yaşamın mekanik ritminden, giderek tekdüzeleşen insan ilişkileri ve bunun doğurduğu iletişimsizlik ile yalnızlıktan kaynaklanan genel bir varoluş sıkıntısı içinde,yaşamına yeni bir anlam ve boyut kazandırmak için mistik, yer yer metafizik denebilecek bir arayışın içine girmiştir. Bu çerçevede, sıkıntıdan çıkış yolunu mistik bir içselleşmeyle özdeşleştirdiği ışık simgesiyle dile getirmektedir.
