Abstract (2. Language):
The concept of the "other" has a variable content as a result of the economical, social, political and cultural conditions of a nation as well as of the international relationships and expectations. Therefore, the concept of the "other" is treated in a historical-sociological way in this study. During the pre-globalisation period, the definition of this concept was developed based on the element of religion which constitutes the loyalty focus of the society. However during the globalisation period, it has begun to be defined depending on such factors as race, nationalism, capitalism. Thus, the definitions of the "other" concept have changed under the influence of such fact as racism, nationalism, capitalism, imperialism. In recent years, the indivudual and societal definitions of the "other" concept seem to be short-term and based on ideological concerns. In the study, the relationships between Europe and Turkey and the definitions of the "other" are discussed in relation to various elements after the globalisation process.

"Öteki", bir ulusun ekonomik, sosyal, siyasal ve kültürel koşulları ile uluslararası ilişkileri ve beklentilerine göre içeriği değişebilen bir kavramdır. Bu nedenle çalışmada "öteki" kavramı tarihsel-sosyolojik açıdan ele alınacaktır. Avrupa yayılmacılığından önce, yani küreselleşmeden önceki dönemde toplumun sadakat odağını oluşturan din unsuruna göre şekillenen öteki tanımları, Avrupa yayılmacılığı sürecinde -dönemsel olarak değişmekle birlikte- ırka, dine, etniye, renge, dile göre çeşitli unsurlarla yapılmıştır. Buna göre öteki tanımları zaman zaman ırkçılık, milliyetçilik, kapitalizm ve emperyalizm gibi olguların etkisinde değişiklik göstermiştir. Zamanımızda ise bireylerin, toplumların ve ulusların öteki tanımları, kısa vadeli politik ve ideolojik kaygılara göre şekillenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Avrupa yayılmacılığından sonraki süreçte çeşitli unsurlara göre dönemsel olarak farklılaşan Avrupa-Türkiye ilişkileri ve öteki tanımları ele alınacaktır.
