Abstract (2. Language):
This study aimed to describe the revision, and test/retest validation of the “Homophobia in Sport Scale” which was originally developed and used by the Witeck- Combs Communications / Harris Interactive. Sixty one male (mean age = 22.52, SD = 1.38) and fifty seven female (mean age = 22.36, SD = 1.35) university students participated in the study. The validity and reliability of the Homophobia in Sport Scale was examined. Initial version of scale was given to three bilingual translators (experts on psychology) to be translated into Turkish. Then Turkish versions retranslated into English by another three bilingual experts. Several bilingual experts and the researcher compared the translated scales decided necessary revisions, and the experimental version of the scale was prepared. Twenty four university students were asked to analyze the items for possible incomprehensible or diverging items. After making necessary adjustments, Turkish version of Homophobia in Sport Scale was applied to the 118 university students. In order to provide content validity, concurrent validity, and reliability, original version of scale was administered to the 118 bilingual (English and Turkish) students. Turkish version retested by the same group of participants in order to measure test-retest reliability. The results of the correlation analyses showed statistically significant correlation among the Turkish and original version of the scale, and also the test-retest of Turkish version of the scale. Turkish Homophobia in Sport Scale is a highly reliable and valid to measure sport fans attitudes towards gay and lesbian athletes.
