The purpose of this study was to examine dispositional flow of Turkish participants in terms of sex and some exercise behavior variables (frequency, type, length and level of activity involvement). The sample of this study constituted 74 female (Mage=23.56; Sd=4.06) and 160 male (Mage=24.15; Sd=6.18) participants from variety of exercise programs. A demographic questionnaire was used to obtain information about their age, gender, frequency, length and type of exercise while Dispositional Flow tendencies of participants in exercise environment were determined by Dispositional Flow Scale-2 (DFS-2). MANOVA was conducted to test differences in dispositional flow states with regard to gender and exercise behaviors. MANOVA results revealed no significant differences in dispositional flow between males and females (p>0.01). MANOVA results also indicated overall significant main effects for frequency (Hotelling’s T2 = 0.14; F (9,186) = 2.94; p<0.01), for length (Hotelling’s T2 = 0.15; F (9,181) = 2.95; p<0.01), and for types of exercise (Hotelling’s T2 = 0.12; F (9,178) = 2.44; p<0.01) on dispositional flow. The frequency, length and type of exercise have an contribution to concentration, cognitive competence, control and more intrinsic enjoyment of exercise participants.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, sürekli optimal performans duygu durumunun cinsiyete ve egzersiz davranışı parametrelerine (sıklık, tür, süre) göre incelenmesidir. Çalışmaya, farklı egzersiz programlarına katılan 74 kadın (X yaş=23.56; Ss=4.06) ve 160 erkek (X yaş=24.15; Ss=6.18) gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Katılımcıların sürekli optimal performans duygu durumları “Sürekli Optimal Performans Duygu Durum Ölçeği- 2 (SOPDDÖ-2)” ile belirlenirken, yaş, cinsiyet, egzersiz sıklığı, egzersiz yapma süresi ve egzersiz türü bilgileri için “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” kullanılmıştır. Katılımcıların sürekli optimal performans duygu durumlarındaki cinsiyet ve egzersiz davranış değişkenlerine göre farkı belirlemek için Çok Yönlü Varyans Analizi (MANOVA) kullanılmıştır. MANOVA analizi sonuçları, erkek ve kadın egzersiz katılımcılarının sürekli optimal performans duygu durumu puanları arasında fark olmadığını ortaya koyarken (p>0.01); egzersiz sıklığı (Hotelling’s T2 = 0.14; F (9,186) = 2.94; p<0.01), egzersiz süresi (Hotelling’s T2 = 0.15; F (9,181) = 2.95; p<0.01) ve egzersiz türüne (Hotelling’s T2 = 0.12; F (9,178) = 2.44;p<0.01) göre puanların farklılaştığını göstermektedir. Bu çalışmanın bulguları, egzersiz süresi, sıklığı ve türünün bireylerin yapmış olduğu aktivitede yüksek konsantrasyona sahip olmasında, aktivite üzerinde bilişsel yeterliği ve kontrolü olduğunu hissetmesinde ve yaptığı aktiviteden almış olduğu içsel hazın artmasında etkili olduğunu ortaya koymuştur.
