Abstract (2. Language):
The purpose of this study was to examine the validity and the reliability of the modified progressive shuttle run (MMK), which is designed to be used in measuring maximal aerobic power and anaerobic threshold running velocity.10 female handball players (Age: 21.2±1.5 years, height: 167.7±9.5 cm, body weight:65.3±7.1 kg) from a first division team were volunteered for the study. The subjects were taken to three measurements with one week interval between the measures During the first two weeks two measurements, namely MMK and Progressive Shuttle Run tests (MK) were given in random order. During the third week, the MMK was given second time to randomly chosen 7 subjects. MMK was run at 8, 10, 11, and 12 km/h velocities for 3 minutes at each speed with one minute rest in between them. Heart rate (HR) was recorded by Polar watches, and by having a drop of blood from an ear lobe whole blood lactic asid (LA) analysis was made. In MMK test retest measures there was no statistically significant difference between heart rate, lactic asid, anaerobic threshold (AT) and anaerobic threshold HR (AT-HR) values. Except for the LA, all the other test and retest results showed significant correlation (p<0.05). Although the test retest results showed high correlation at low velocities, the correlation was low at higher velocities. There was no correlation between the post test LA results of MK and MMK tests (r=0.14, p>0.05) AT velocity, and AT-HR values obtained from MMK showed no correlation with the number of shuttle runs obtained from MK (r=0.737, p>0.05 and r=0.532, p>0.05). Similarly the HR values obtained from MMK and MK at corresponding velocities, although there was no difference, there was no correlation between them. MMK can be used in determination of HR and LA at different running velocities. It has been concluded that although the MMK test was reliable the metabolic responses obtained were different than the MK test
