A General Critique of Translation in The Case of The Word “salât(uke)” in The 87th Verse
of Hûd Surah
In translations, with mastering of the both of languages, we need for a serious historical back
round about structure of the text. Especially, we have to focus about the chronological
developments of the concepts and their reflections in the text. If we neglect this, we may fall
in anachronism in our translations. In 87th verse of Hûd surah, the word “salât(uke)” is an
considerable example of that. The translators’ adaptations of prepared knowledge which the
classical exegeses included, with uncritical methods, made those mistakes circulate
