Present study was conducted to evaluate the validity of computed tomography (CT) and the correlation between CT findings and dialysis related amyloidosis in patients having electrophysiologically proven carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The wrists of 9 hemodialysis (HD) patients and 8 volunteers were evaluated with CT and carpal tunnel area (CTA) measurements were made at three levels. Significant correlation was found between the median nerve sensory conduction velocity and narrowing in the CTA. It was observed that the lower the carpal tunnel area, the lower the sensory conduction velocity. We found no significant correlation between the CTA measurements and median nerve diameter, the duration of dialysis. Therefore, this reveals that hemodialysis patients may have CTS in any period of their dialysis treatment. It is concluded that, CT, demonstrating the morphological findings in carpal tunnel, is important in the diagnosis of preclinic CTS in hemodialysis patients and should be used in follow-up of these patients

Elektrofizyolojik testlerle karpal tünel sendromu (KTS) tanısı alan hemodiyaliz (HD) hastalarında, bilgisayarlı tomografinin (BT) KTS tanısındaki katkılarını ve BT bulguları ile diyalize bağlı amiloidoz arasındaki korrelasyonu ortaya koymak için bu prospektif çalışmayı yaptık. 9 HD hastası ve 8 gönüllünün elbilekleri BT ile incelenip, üç düzeyde KT alan ölçümleri yapıldı. Median sinir duysal ileti hızı ile hastaların KT alanında daralma arasında anlamlı korrelasyon saptandı ve KT alanı küçüldükçe duysal ileti hızının azaldığı tesbit edildi. Çalışmamızda BT de KT alanı ve median sinir çapı ölçümleri ile hastalık süresi ve uygulanan diyaliz seans süresi arasında ilişki tesbit edilmedi. Bu da HD tedavisi alan kronik böbrek yetmezlikli hastaların hastalıklarının herhangi bir döneminde KT alanında daralma olabileceğini göstermektedir. Bu nedenle HD tedavisi alan hastaların preklinik KTS tanısında BT nin önemli bir yeri olduğu, hastaların takibinde bu tetkikin yapılmasının gerektiği ve KT deki morfolojik değişiklikleri BT nin oldukça iyi bir şekilde demonstre ettiği sonucuna varıldı.
