Abstract (2. Language):
This study was performed to evaluate the effects of metoprolol and diltiazem on exercise capacity and hemodynamic parameters in 64 patients with mild and moderate mitral stenosis in sinus rhythm. All patients were randomized to metoprolol group and diltiazem group. At the beginning and at the end of each treatment period, a treadmill exercise and M-mode, two dimensional, and Doppler echocardiography were performed. Only metoprolol significantly reduced the peak and mean transmitral gradient and heart rate (P<0.01, P<0.05, and P<0.05, respectively) and also significantly increased exercise time, whereas diltiazem did not change these parameters at all. Abstract (Original Language):
