Rapid laboratory detection of the tuberculosis bacilli, determination of its drug resistance and detection of the source of infection are very important for successful treatment. Therefore rapid, highly specific and sensitive, easily applicable novel culture methods and molecular diagnostic techniques have been developed in the recent years.

Tüberküloz basilinin kısa sürede tanımlanması, ilaç direncinin saptanması ve infeksiyon kaynağının belirlenmesi etkin bir tedavi için çok önemlidir. Bu nedenle klasik laboratuvar tanı metodları yanında hızlı sonuç veren, duyarlılığı ve özgüllüğü yüksek, kolay uygulanabilir yeni kültür yöntemleri ve molekül er biyoloji teknikleri geliştirilmiştir.
