Abstract (2. Language):
Leptin concentrations in relation to overall adiposity, fat distribution and plasma insülin le-vels in obese women. The aim of this study is to examine the associations between leptin le-vels and BMI, fat distribution and serum insülin levels in obese women. 125 premenouposal obese women and 25 normal-vveight women participated in the study. Leptin levels in obese women were significantly higher than controls (26.4+16.8 vs 11.7+4.9 ng/mL, p<0.001). In obese women, leptin levels were significantly correlated with BMI (r: 0,3433), vvaist circumfe-rence (r: 0.3278), insülin (r: 0,2466) and HOMA (r: 0,2971). Our data suggested a significant relationship between leptin concentration and BMI (a surrogate for overall adiposity) and indi-cated that leptin levels might be a marker for the existence of insülin resistance.
