Abstract (2. Language):
The effect ofaging on oxidative modificalions in DNA, proteins and lipids: The investigations in lymphocytes, erythrocytes, plasma and low âensity iipoproteins. Free radicals play an im-portant role in the proccss of aging. In this study, we wanted to investigale the rclatioııship between the oxidative stress and aging in humans by determhıing lipİd and protein oxidatİon in plasma as well as DNA damage in lymphocytes of 55 healthy subjects who werc divided into two subgroups of age; young (21-40 years) and clderly (61-85 years). In addition, we dc-termined endogenous and stimulated Üpid peroxide levels in low density İipoproteins (LDL) and erythrocytes of young and eiderly subjects. According to our resuits, Üpid peroxide and protein carbonyl levels in plasma as well as DNA damage in lymphocytes is found to inerease in clderly subjects, lipİd peroxide levels also inereased in LDL and erythrocytes of eiderly subjects. Our resuits, clearly show the presence of oxîdative stress in eiderly subjects.
