Fevcr of Unknown Origiıt: 57 case reporls. Fever of unknovvn origiıt (FUO) is defined as a tempcıature higher than 38.3 degrees C on scveral occasİons and lasling longer than 3 vveeks, with a diagnosis that remains uncertain after 1 week of investigation. Tn this study we revic-wed 57 patients with FUO hospİtalized in our elinic bctween 1998 and 2003. The median age of the patients was 44 (17-84, 26 male [46%] and 31 female [54%]). in 24 patients (42%), in-feettons were found responsible from FUO. In the infectİon group, uıberculosis was the lea-ding cause wi(h 12 patients (21%) follovved by bıucellosis with 5 patients (9%). Inflaınmatoıy rheumalic diseases were diagııosed in 17 patients (30%) whİIe maligııities wcrc found in 10 patients (18%). In 6 patients (10%) no ctİology could be found. Iııfections especially lubercu-losİs and brucellosis are the ieadİng causes of FUO in our country.

Nedeni bilinmeyen ateş (NBA), 38.3°C'nin üzerinde, cn az 3 haftadır süren ve 1 hafta boyunca tetkik edilmesine rağmen nedeni belirlenemeyen ateş olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada 1998-2003 yılları arasında servisimizde yatırılan ve NBA kriterlerini taşıyan 57 vakayı derledik. Hastaların median yaşı 44 (17-84) olup 26'sı erkek (%46) ve 3 l'i kadındı (%54). NBA vakalarının 24'ündcn infeksiyoniar sorumlu bulundu (%42). Infekniyon saptanan bu grup içinde 12 vakada tüberküloz (%21) ve 5 vakada ise brusclloz (%9) saptandı. On vakada (%18) malig-nile, 17 vakada (%30J inflamatuvar romatizmal hastalık tespit edilirken 6 vakada (%10) ateşin nedeni bulunamadı. Ülkemizde en sık rastlanılan NBA nedeni infeksiyoniar olup bu grup içinde tüberküloz ve bruseiloz ilk sırada akla gelmelidir.
