Abstract (2. Language):
Objective: Individuals with high levels of self-efficacy are better able to manage their illness and treatment. The
effect of emotional distress of the illness on the person may be decreased, and his/her quality of life may be improved.
The purpose of this study is to assess patients’ self-efficacy and to investigate the factors affecting self-efficacy
in people undergoing hemodialysis (HD).
Materials and methods: This research was conducted as a descriptive survey study by 125 people with end-stage
renal disease (ESRD) who were patients of HD units service in Sivas. The data were collected with a Personal Information
Form, General Self-Efficacy Scale analyzed using percent, mean, Tukey test, significance test of two means,
One-way variant analysis and Kruskal-Wallis test in the SPSS Programme.
Results: The level of self-efficiacy experienced by the people with HD patients was low. 41.6% had been dialyzed
for two to five years, 90.4% dialyzed three times a week, 68.8% had other chronic illnesses. Their self efficiacy
was also affected by factors such as age, gender, education, employment status, income level and frequency of
HD application. On the other hand, the marital status and place of residence did not have an effect on self efficacy
(p>0.05). No significant differences were found for having a chronic illness other than chronic renal failure or for the dialysis center where the HD was done and total self efficacy scores (p>0.05). Also, statistically significant differences
were not found between duration of illness and HD patients’ total self efficacy scores (p>0.05)
Conclusions: Hemodialysis application affects patients’ self-efficacy levels. In view of this study’s results, it is recommended
to organize education programs to increase self-care ability and self-efficacy levels of hemodialysis patients
and prepare comprehensive plans including patients’ families. A self-efficacy training program may also need
to include coping training to improve patients' confidence to carry out self-care behaviors.

ÖZET
Amaç: Öz yeterlilik düzeyi yüksek olan bireyler hastal›k ve tedavilerini daha iyi yönetmektedirler. Öz yeterlilik düzeyinin
yüksekli¤i, hastal›¤›n birey üzerindeki emosyonel s›k›nt›lar›n› azaltabilir ve yaflam kalitesini yükseltebilir.
hemodiyaliz uygulanan 125 hasta üzerinde yap›lm›flt›r. Kiflisel Bilgi Formu ve Genel Öz Yeterlilik Ölçe¤i ile elde
edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizi, SPSS program›nda yüzde hesaplama, ortalama, iki ortalama aras›ndaki fark›n
önemlilik testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi, Tukey testi, Kruskal-Wallis testi kullan›larak yap›lm›flt›r.
Bulgular: Çal›flmada yer alan hastalar›n öz yeterlilik düzeyi ortalama puan› düflük bulunmufltur. Örneklemin
%41,6’s› 2–5 y›ld›r hemodiyaliz tedavisi almakta, % 90,4’ü haftada 3 kez hemodiyalize girmekte, %68,8’inin
SDBY d›fl›nda baflka kronik hastal›¤› bulunmaktad›r. Hastalar›n Öz yeterlilik düzeyini; yafl, cinsiyet, e¤itim durumu,
çal›flma durumu, gelir düzeyi ve hemodiyaliz uygulama s›kl›¤› etkilerken (p<0,05); medeni durum ve ikamet
edilen yer etkilememifltir.
do¤rultusunda, hemodiyaliz uygulanan hastalar›n öz yeterlilik düzeylerini artt›racak e¤itim programlar›n›n düzenlenmesi
önerilmektedir. Öz yeterlilik e¤itim program› öz-bak›m davran›fllar›n›n kazand›r›lmas›nda hastalar›n kendilerine
güvenini artt›r›c› özellikte olmal›d›r.
