In this study all the treatments of the ratio of placement and replacement, their reasons and the longevity oj the restorations applied to the patients by the Wth and Vth class students at the Faculty of Dentistry, Hacettepe University had been investigated statistically. Besides, the effects of recent negative news about amalgam by the press on the rate of replacement had been evaluated. After the period of a month, 311 of the 486 evaluated restorations were the placements and 175 of them were replacements. The longevity of the replaced composlt resins were determined as 2.9 years and 4.1 years for amalgam fillings. It had been ascertained that seconder caries in amalgam replacements and the total loss of filling in composite were the main reasons of replacement. During the research period, none of the patients claimed to replace amalgam restorations by composites.

Bu çalışmada, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi tedavi Kliniğine başvuran ve dönem IV, dönem V öğrencileri tarafından tedavi edilen hastalara yapılan uygulamaların, ne kadarının ilk kez yapılan, ne kadarının yenilenen restorasyonlar olduğu ve yenilenme nedenleri ile birlikte bu restorasyonların ağızda kalış süreleri, ayrıca son yıllarda amalgam konusunda basında yer alan olumsuz haberlerin yenileme oranlarını ne yönde etkilediği klinik olarak araştırıldı. Bir aylık süre sonunda değerlendirilen 486 restorasyonun 311'inİ ilk kez yapılanlar, 175'ini yenilenenler oluşturdu. Yenilenen restorasyonların ağızda kalış süreleri ise kompozit rezinler için -2.9 yıl, amalgam dolgular için -4.1 yıl olarak belirlendi. Amalgam dolgularda sekonder çürükler, kompozitlerde ise dolgunun tamamen kaybı en fazla yenilenme nedeni olarak saptandı. Araştırma süresince hiçbir hastadan amalgam dolgusunun kompozitle değiştirilmesi konusunda bir istek gelmedi.
