Abstract (2. Language):
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the cytocompatibility of two different types of esthetic restorative dental materials on human gingival fibroblasts. Human primary fibroblasts cultured from gingival biopsies were used for monitoring the biocompatibility of porcelain (Vita VMK 68, Germany) and the new dental restorative composite material (Targis İvoclar, Liechtenstein). Pure titanium and polymethylmethacrylate were used as negative and positive controls. The specimens of both test and control groups were exposed to cell culture for 15 days. The cultures were observed in an inverted light microscope over a period of two weeks. The samples of composite restorative material Targis caused moderate cell injury, observed after the third and seventh days of exposure, similar to the results of the positive controls. However, the samples of porcelain showed some late reactions, observed after the 15th days of exposure. The result of this study showed that, the new dental restorative composite material Targis may cause some early tissue reactions to some degree when compared to porcelain.
