Abstract (2. Language):
The impact of minimum wage on employment and unemployment has been analyzed in labor economics literature intensively. Economists almost unanimously accept the argument that increasing the minimum wage above the lowest market wage will increase unemployment, but improve the welfare of those who remain employed. In Turkey especially during the last years, the level of minimum wage is getting more criticized. The core of these critiques is that the minimum wage being increased more than average market wage causes unemployment. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of minimum wage on employment and unemployment in Turkey.
