Abstract (2. Language):
Constituting the major part of wetlands, forested wetlands have a large coverage on the planet, excepting the Antarctica continent. Approximately, three percent of the planet's land area is estimated to be wetlands, of which 60% is considered forested wetlands. Forested wetlands support many plant and animal communities that arc rare in other types of ecosystem and therefore have a significant place in the plancfs biodiversity. Many endangered plant and animal species find suitable habitats in forested wetland ecosystems. The acreage of these unique areas have however been shrinking fast, resulting in great losses in the flora and fauna that these areas have supported. This paper focuses on the concept of the forested wetland and aims to give information on the forested wetlands of Turkey.

Sulak alanların önemli bir bölümünü oluşturan subasar ormanlar, Antartika hariç her kıtada geniş bir yayılışa sahiptir. Yaklaşık olarak karaların %3'ü sulak alandır ve bunun % 60'nın subasar orman olduğu tahmin edilmektedir. Diğer ekosistemlerde bulunmayan bitki ve hayvan topluluklarını beslemeleri nedeniyle biyolojik çeşitliliğe önemli katkı sağlamaktadırlar. Tehlike altındaki bir çok bitki ve hayvan türü subasar orman ekosistemlerine bağımlıdır. Alanlarının hızla daralması, barındırdıkları fauna ve floranın yok olmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu yüzden subasar ormanlar her geçen gün dünya çapında önem kazanmaktadır. Bu makalede, subasar orman kavramı üzerinde durulmuş ve Türkiye'nin subasar ormanları hakkında bilgi verilmiştir.
