Abstract (2. Language):
Discrimination that women face in advanc ing up the job ladder into high level management positions is called the glass ceiling. Calculating the ratio of women on firm boards is one of the methods used to identify the presence of gender discrimination and glass ceiling. The study argues that using only quantitative methods to identify the magnitude of glass ceiling problem can be misleading and qualitative factors should be taken into account to make better judgments about the issue. In this context ISE100 firms are studied and us ing qualitative factors such as legal system, ownership concentration and social culture proved to be important determinants of the glass ceiling problem. The study also proposes recommendations for future studies on the topic.
