The aim of our study is to examine the relationship between financial development and economic growth for the 1989-2010 period in Turkey. Basically the direction of the causality is discussed by dividing this period into two parts. The first period begins with the financial opennes process which takes place in 1989 and ends up with the banking crisis in 2001. The second period contains the restructring period which has just started after the banking crisis and continues till today. The analysis was made with the quarterly data and as a result of the Granger causality test we stated that there is a bi-directional causality between economic growth and financial development for the 1989-2001 period. On the other hand in the second period the direction of the causality is from economic growth to financial development.

Çalısmanın amacı 1989-2010 döneminde Türkiye açısından finansal gelisme ekonomik büyüme iliskisinin gelisimini ortaya koymaktır. Nedensellik iliskisinin temel olarak inceleneceği arastırmada bahsedilen dönemdeki bu iliskisi 3 aylık verilerle iki ayrı dönem çerçevesinde analiz edilmistir. Đlk dönem finansal entegrasyon sürecinin baslangıcı olan 1989 senesinden 2001 finansal krizine kadar geçen süreç; ikinci dönem ise 2001 sonrası yeniden yapılanma döneminden günümüze kadar geçen süreçtir. Granger nedensellik testinin kullanıldığı çalısmada, 1989- 2001 dönemi için ekonomik büyüme finansal gelisme arasında her iki yöne doğru da bir nedensellik iliskisi tespit edilirken; 2001 sonrası dönemde ağırlıklı olarak ekonomik büyümeden finansal gelismeye doğru bir nedensellik görülmüstür.
